July was a particularly special month for me. On July 12th I was able to bang the gong as I completed my last radiation treatment and with that ended my active treatments for my breast cancer. Although this is an incredibly happy time, it is also quite scary and I miss all of the awesome nurses and technicians that became my constant support and friends. I still have a lot of follow-up appointments and tests, but to be able to say that “I did this!” and be in remission is a beautiful place to be!

To celebrate this incredible achievement my family spent the weekend in Lake Geneva, WI. We went out to dinner and bumped into an old friend who told the restaurant my good news. They really made me feel like a rockstar and the whole restaurant celebrated with me as they announced that I am cancer free over the speakers and presented me with a flaming chocolate cake! I have so much to celebrate!

I still have a surgery ahead of me, but I need to take a break, heal a bit, and try to figure out who Jessica is now and live a normal life. I have started back at work half time, I have gotten back to running and lifting weights, and I am happy to be more involved with my kids sports and activities. I always tell my kids to “Be Awesome!” and I have tried to live by those words myself. I remained positive throughout my journey and always smiled and acted as silly as usual, but I feel that I have so much more to smile about now. I have a whole new outlook on life and I appreciate the little things so much more now. Oh, and I have hair! It is growing back so fast!

I am so grateful for all of the love, prayers, and support that everyone has given me the last 9 months. If you are reading this post, then you hold a special place on my list of people who I thank every night who helped save/prolong my life.

With thanks and so much love…Be Awesome!

Jessica
